Ttc4it Company News Secure VPN Moves to Vmware We have ported the Secure VPN Gateway to a Vmware appliance. This means that the software can now be run on any platform that will run VmPlayer. The other major spin off is the speed and ease of getting the software up and running. You can literally have the Secure VPN Gateway up and runing within 5 minutes of downloading it. No more tricky installs and configurations to be done. Its all been done for you. This is the magic of the Virtual appliance. Oracle Table Replication When it comes to thinking outside the box, we have more than a few miles under the belt. We have recently completed a development project for producing a software solution that will replicate database tables between Oracle Databases. "Hold on a minute!" I hear you all yelling. This has been standard Oracle functionality for ages. Well yes it has, but there are a lot of catches. Especially if one of your databases happens to be rather old and lets face it lots of companies have an old Oracle database that for one reason or another they can not upgrade. Yet they still need to tie it into newer databases. Our Oracle table replication solution has no problem crossing huge database version gaps and has no problem with differcult data types. It also has some great features around the concept of database fail-over. Backing up to Windows It was not long ago that anyone suggesting this would have been shot at dawn. But times are changing and with disk space so cheap and an abundance of it sitting on Windows desktops it seemed like a good idea to use this space for something useful. Our backup to windows solution is a small utility that makes it unbelievably simple to store a Linux backup on a Windows PC. When I say simple I mean simple. Far easier that using SaMBa to backup to a Windows shared directory. Whats more, from tests we have done it is also faster. The move has been driven by our customers. 67% of our global Internet traffic comes from North America. So it made sense to move the hosting of the Ttc4it web site to a region where these customers would receive a significant speed benefit.
